I love photography. I love it as a form of art. And I need it as my long-term memory. To capture that one moment in one frame, and cherish it, forever.
I also love food; even though I sincerely dislike preparing it.
Yet, I do think food and photography are no good match. And hence I consistently roll my eyes (and with me all Parisian restaurant goers) at these crazy tourists who cannot stop taking pictures of their plates with huge SLRs.
Well ... Until we arrived in Lima, undisputed food capital of South America. There is no way words could begin to describe the variety of flavours and ingredients, from the Pacific ocean, over the majestic Andes to the Amazon jungle, all brought together harmoniously in true works of art. So please bear with me when, for the very first time, I have attempted to capture the flavour of Lima's culinary delights through pictures.
Peruvians are serious - obsessed - about food, and Lima is their culinary capital. So whether you eat a bite at a market stand for 10 Soles or a 13-course menu at one of the top 3 restaurants in the Americas, a feast for the senses is always guaranteed.
From singing frogs (Canta Rana) and friendly fishes (El Pez Amigo) to a true culinary orgasm at world-famous Astrid & Gaston (we clearly did not see this one coming when leaving on a back-to-basics roadtrip for four months!)... Beyond any doubt, food-wise, this is as good as South America gets.
“Ser cocinero es todo un gran honor. Llamarse chef, una pequeña huachafería.”
